Jellico Community Hospital, Jellico, Tenn., has been recognized as one of the first hospitals to receive the Blue Distinction® Center for Maternity Care designation, awarded by BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee. Jellico is one of 280 recipients that have achieved this new designation.
“We are proud of this accomplishment as it embodies our values, mission, and care,” said Kim Dowell, CEO of the hospital.
Hospitals that receive a Blue Distinction Center for Maternity Care designation are recognized for delivering quality specialty care safely and effectively, including the percentage of newborns that fall into the category of early elective delivery, an ongoing concern in the medical community. They also met requirements that align with principles that support evidence-based practices of care, as well as having initiated successful breastfeeding programs.
Research shows that, compared to other facilities, those designated as Blue Distinction Centers demonstrate better quality and improved outcomes for patients, according to BlueCross and BlueShield of Tennessee.
“BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee is pleased to congratulate Jellico Community Hospital on this achievement,” said Dr. Andrea Willis, chief medical officer for BlueCross. “We believe it’s important to acknowledge the efforts of these facilities to provide high quality care. This recognition provides BlueCross members with the peace of mind they need when making decisions regarding medical treatment.”
